The World’s Oldest Clock Is Also the Most Beautiful!
Inspired by the world’s most beautiful clock
The world’s most beautiful clock is also the oldest clock still in operation today: the Prague Astronomical Clock.
Attached to Prague’s Old Town Hall, this impressive timepiece was created in 1410 by clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň. At the top of every hour, a procession of the Twelve Apostles appears through the clock’s window. Flanking the clock are figures representing vanity, greed, death and lust. But standard timekeeping is a secondary function of this clock; it also tracks the movement celestial bodies and other astrological information through its mechanical astrolabe.
